Police Shut Down Brice Road Cruise
- By Mark Potes
- Published August 10, 2009
After the track shuts down for the evening the car owners usually head for the legendary Brice Road for a cruise. Thousands of spectators line the streets to see the cars and a few burnouts. This has been going on for years. This year the local police pretty much shut down any activity other than normal driving down the street.
Word must of got around very fast, because the turn out of muscle cars was very, very low on Brice road. A criuse was scheduled in the town of Heath. Many people will do both, but not this year. We heard from fellow car owners that Heath was really rocking this year.
We talked to some of the spectators and they were all disappointed. The police had cars stationary in some intersections with there lights flashing. They also were pulling people over and we saw one officer on a bicycle among the crowd.
The past cruises we have been to were fun with vehicles of all types and makes showing up. There were spots on the street where people would throw out some water and cars would do burnouts. A real crowd pleaser and the police previously just monitored the traffic and only pulled over people who were getting carried away.
Now, they are going to drive all those dollars right out of there community. We made a trip to Heath Sunday morning and scoped out all the hotels for next year. You could tell all the action was in Heath as there was enough rubber on the road for a Nascar race!
All of our spendable dollars next year will be going to Heath. We will shop there, eat at the restaurants and hopefully stay there in one of the motels. No more spending on Brice Road for us. Many Mopar owners will be doing the same. Sure the Brice Road police kept order in their way this year, but their community will lose revenue next year for sure. Sad for them really as it was a tradition for us motorsports fans and we loved going there.

Car Dealers Tossed Aside Like Dirty Laundry
- By Mark Potes

Unreal. Chrysler cuts dealers and GM announces the same thing the next day. Did anyone see this coming a year ago? Can you believe how many tragic events have occurred in our economy in the last year??Is the government being involved in all things business a good idea? I don't believe so. How many government programs run good? How about medicare or social security? They say they are going broke. Just great.
Now the heavy hand of the feds is manipulating our beloved car companies. Many dealerships are getting the axe. Is this the real desire of the car makers or is the fed pushing the agenda. We will know the truth someday.
I do believe car dealers are getting a very raw deal. Franchise agreements are being terminated on real people who have helped build these brands for decades.
Now they are being tossed aside like dirty laundry. It's not only the business people who own the dealership but the mechanics, salespeople and the rest of the staff who put their heart and soul into the brand.
Sure, you can say life isn't fair, but what do these dealers cost the automakers and how is reducing the network going to help??
Less money for marketing and fewer places to go buy the cars, parts and service. How does that make sense?
The dealers all buy the vehicles from the automakers....so how are they saving money??
One local dealer added 2 million dollars worth of inventory to his lot when they were begging for dealers to take vehicles and....yes...he was told he was no longer needed.
Unreal...or surreal...take your pick.

Pontiac to the Scrap Yard??
- By Mark Potes

I don't know about you but this whole auto bailout stinks. Banks were given billions with no strings attached. Bank and Wall Street execs were given millions in bonuses.I do not begrudge the money when they are creating it, but when the taxpayers are bailing them out, I do object.
Now the auto companies have taken huge downturns mostly do to wall street and banks making huge blunders. (Admittedly, some of this was due to hugely dangerous government policies) The auto companies are now at the mercy of the Government with so many strings it turned to rope. GM CEO booted. By the President. Amazing stuff. You could not write this scenario because no one could imagine it.
Now, Pontiac is going. An iconic brand to the scrap yard. What is next...Jeep...Dodge???
An incredible time, maybe about to get much worse. The auto industry is the back bone of our economy and government is putting the boots to them.
If we should bailout anyone..it should be the auto industry.

PS. This is my personal opinion. So far we still have free speech.
